What is a Shakti Mat?
A Shakti mat is made up of thousands of tiny little spikes.
These spikes have incredible healing benefits of more expensive treatments such as acupuncture and massage.
Acupressure is a 3,000 year old healing technique used for improving circulation and muscle relaxation.

How do the acupressure points work?
The fewer number of points on a mat means the more intense the effect is. If your weight is distributed over more points then the effect is less.
During the first few minutes it’s common to feel a pricking, warm, sometimes throbbing sensation on the areas being treated.
This is due to a couple of reasons – firstly, the increase in circulation to the area, brought about by the body’s reaction to the thousands of little spikes putting pressure on your skin.
Then there is the build up of tension being released as your body slowly relaxes. Its like you can literally feel tension melting away.
If you have a lot of tension then you may have discomfort, this gradually fades away with regular use of the Shakti mat. Frequent and regular users get little to no pain at all because tension is much lower in the areas the mat is applied to.
Tip – start off by wearing a thin piece of clothing such as a singlet or t-shirt. As you become more comfortable you can lose the clothing as bare skin is much more beneficial.

HOW TO USE
BACK – Duration 20+ Minutes
Lying on your back is the most popular way to use The Shakti Mat.
You can place your mat on any surface – but the most common is on a bed.
Soft surfaces make contact between your mat and the lower back easier to achieve.
Using The Shakti Mat as part of your bedtime routine prepares the body for a deep restful sleep and may help ease muscles in the back.
NECK AND SHOULDERS – Duration 10+ Minutes
With Today’s lifestyle of being hunched over our devices we can often get tight neck and shoulder muscles.
Simply roll the Shakti mat up as you would a traditional Yoga mat lie back and rest your neck and shoulders on the acupressure points for instant relief.
Or use the mat in combination with the Shakti Neck Pillows.
FEET – Duration 5+ Minutes
Long day on your feet? by simply standing on the Shakti mat for 5 minutes at the end of the day can boost circulation.
Our feet are covered in pressure points, by standing on the spikes it can massage our tired weary feet. Start off with socks and slowly build up to barefoot.
LEGS – Duration 5-10 Minutes
Place your Shakti Mat over a pillow or elevated surface to concentrate the effect on desired areas.
Acupressure can support the body’s natural healing activity. You may find your leg muscles warm and relax – perfect for post-exercise recovery.
The Shakti Mat can be applied pre-workout for intense nervous stimulation to support muscle activation.
For How Long and How Often Can I Use My Shakti Mat?
We suggest that you start with 15 minutes. Once you are accustomed to the feeling, 20-60 minutes per session is standard.
It is not at all dangerous to exceed this time limit – many people fall asleep on the mat, and that is perfectly safe. We recommend regular (if possible, daily) use.

Heart Conditions/Anti-Coagulant Medication Use
This is simply because the Shakti Mat promotes a circulation boost, and this is not recommended for those prone to clotting.
Using the Shakti Mat can raise the heart rate for the first few minutes, then lower it on longer sessions as the body relaxes.
This effect on the heart for healthy individuals is positive, however we absolutely recommend speaking to a doctor before using the Shakti Mat if you have a heart condition.
